Card BlanksIf I want to print onto my own cards, do I buy the card creased or uncreased??
My work has a very good colour printer, so I'm going to stay over and print my invites there! *Naughty*
|
MrsCW

Creased is best if you are wanting to print directly onto the card as it means you don't have to manually score them yourself.
HOWEVER, it depends on the printer you will be using too.
What is the works make and model?

Rach, that won't work well with any card blanks... Laser's never do down to their mechanisms.
Basically lasers roll the paper/card round to print on it thus bending it (so the card wouldn't come out as it goes in!). Sometimes it is not too bad with sheets of A4 in Lasers as you can do the manual feed out at the rear BUT I don't know whether your works one - with it being a biggy - would have that facility. If it does, you would have to use A4 Card Uncreased, then guilloteen them down THEN 'bone' them so they had the fold.
A right faff!

Firstly, do you know what card blanks/type you want to use?
If so, where are you getting them from? I have discount in 2 places and I may be able to help you out.
I would try a piece of A4 card (the same type that you want to use) in the printer and see how it goes.
HOWEVER you would have to use A4 Card otherwise they're be major paper jams

Hmm,I may have found another design that doesn't involve printing straight onto the card. I'll investigate that avenue.

I tried to print really thin card in FIL's laser, and it just didn't work, it looked a real mess Looks lovely on paper, but lasers just can't handle anything thicker than 120gsm at most, but usually 80gsm.

I get 10% from PDA so when you do want to order, let me know and I can order it and get it delivered to your house.
The link you sent just was to all of their Card Blanks and there are MANY!
What is the size of the card?
Are you wanting a single or double fold?
Are you wanting it to be pearlescent or flat or other texture?

I'm looking at the pocketfolds now as I like this invite design (changed mine, various reasons - invite business is the bane of this wedding):
And I thought I could get 140mm pocketfold in Baghdad Brown:
http://www.pdacardandcraft.co.uk/...p=4&lastcatid=89&pid=1272
What do you think?
|
MrsCW
|
Wow you've changed your colours! Oh bummer!
Are you still going to use the apple theme? (please say you are!)
The pocket folds from PDA are fab - so def worth doing. And yes, you certainly wouldn't have to print on the pocket fold itself.
I would def help you (if needed) with how to layout the design onto A4 sheets of paper so you could print them at work and then all you would need is the use of a guiloteen (plese dont use scissors as it'll look pants).
I have a suggestion re: the flap over the pocketfold.... vellum would look AMAZING! AND I would put the image of the apple on the vellum as well as the little bit of detail. Would certainly bring it to life. OR OR OR clear acetate!
The adhesive to use for the flaps on the pocketfold should be a permenant double sided sticky tape (preferably dry glue) as the flaps CAN pop open.
As for printing the vellum, not sure if it can be printed on laser printer but I know laser acetate can be.
Re: the paper for printing the actual invite on, are you wanting plain flat ivory too? Possibly the natural
That would be on the Baghdad Brown
And I'm hoping you're going to say you are still using green as the Pistacchio would look great for the Info/RSVP cards for the flappy section
How's that sound?
|
MrsRaggle
|
We are using green - but subtely. No apple I'm afraid, concentrating on pink and brown with dashes of gold and hints of green.
I can't picture what you mean about the vellum over the fold Bit rubbish at these things.

Subtely shouts the pistacchio that I posted before and it would work well with the Candy Pink too which is in that range.
OR.... are you wanting to keep that card stock Ivory coloured (ie the Natural) with Pink and Brown as the font colour with the odd accent of gold and green?
Re the vellum, you know this pic?
well, image the part which folds around the pocketfold (here being paper) being vellum.
Vellum is a cloudy clear kind of paper.... which can be printed on. It would look amazing to get one in maybe a light pink tone and have the writing in a nice brown font on.
Here are some that PDA do:-
Baby Pink
Pink
OR
Floral Pink

Thanks Mrs. Loving this idea now - if I used the green vellum on the front, where would I use the pink?? | The green colour is the card/paper not the vellum. The don't do that light pistacchio green in the vellum.
I would suggest the light pink vellum with Brown writing with a 'touch' of pistacchio coloured font (the pistacchio may clash).
OR you could do the above with just brown writing and get some pistacchio 3mm satin edged ribbonand stick to the edge of the vellum all the way around.

Based on 70 invites
70 Pocketfolds - Baghdad Brown = £21.49-£2.15 discount
35 sheets of paper - Colorplan - Natural (Ivory) = £5.85-£0.59 discount
35 sheets of card - Colorplan - Pistacchio = £10.26-£1.03 discount

| Raggle (nee Rach Vegas09) wrote: | | All sounds fab to me - where would I put the mosaic tiles. The place where I know you can def buy these is www.tapestryofdelights.com. Type "tiles" into the search engine.
They only have 2 in stock BUT if you email the shop (Angie & Craig) and say I sent you their way, they may be able to get some more packs for you. You'd need 3 packs for the invites.

Response from the tiles company:
| Quote: | Hi Rachel
sorry for not getting back to you last night, but after a hectic day with the kiddies dragging me all over, I was actually in bed when you emailed hahaha!!
Anyway, regarding the mosaic tiles that Stacy mentioned, I am so sorry but I'm afraid the mini mosaic tiles were discontinued by our wholesaler some time ago now, and despite our best efforts, we haven't been able to find a similar thing at a similar price. We do have some stock left though but I'm afraid only two packs left of the green shades.
@ £1.95 per sheet of 54 mini tiles, each one measuring 10mm square.
We then have 2 packs of blue shades, 1 pack of light pink shades, 3 packs of brown shades, 1 pack of deep pinks/burgundys and 1 pack of aubergines/golds/dusky pinks.
I could probably get three packs in a small envelope packed flat side by side and squeeeze them through the 5mm small letter gap so would charge £1.30 P&P for up to 3 packs.
P&P on 4 to 5 packs would be £1.50 as they wouldn't fit through that 5mm gap so would have to go via the Large Letter catergory using the 25mm gap.
I hope this email comes through ok as when pictures are added sometimes, it causes problems.
If you'd like to go ahead, please let us know, but we are in and out of the office today as the kiddies are on school holidays so we are taking them here there and everywhere, so please bare with us and we'll get back to you as soon as we are next at our computer.

Just flicking around some websites for some ideas, I think I need the following information in the pocket for the day invites:
Directions or Travel Information (depending on whether we can afford to rally everyone to the ceremony or not)
Dinner Reception
Midlands Evening Reception
RSVP (we won't provide stamps or envelopes - we'll just print our address on the back like a postcard)
For the Midlands Evening Reception invites:
Accomodation
Directions
Itinery??? What do you think to this i.e. first dance timing, buffet opens and carriages??
RSVP
I just thought I will need a card to give out at the ceremony, well the Ushers will, so they know the Order of Service/The Day and (hopefully) a list of the staged photographs.
Any other suggestions?

Right, based on the fact you want 4 page inserts, you'll need the use of a long arm stapler first of all.
Order Of The Day (it's not a Order of Service as it's of the whole day and not just the ceremony):-
14cm square card blank - Baghdad Brown
1 sheets of A4 (which will be cut down/folder so it's 14cm folder over (28cm in width) which will be printed on both sides - Natural
Front, I would personally print "Order of the Day blah blah blah" onto some of the vellum, but instead of looping it around the card, just fold it slightly over the edges and stick down.
'Ingredients' Needed:- 40 OOTD (you generally give 1 per couple)
> 40*14cm Square Card Blank - Baghdad Brown
> 40*A4 sheets of paper - Natural
> 4*A4 sheets of vellum - Pink
Info Cards
In total you will need 'ingredients' for:-
> Day = 4*13 invites = 52
> Evening = 3*50 invites = 150
I' now confused, this equates to 63 invites in total BUT you're doing 70.... and I suggested basing it on 80 in case of errors SO... I'm going to give you figures for 80 as before.... here goes again
> Day = 4*13 invites = 52
> Evening = 3*50 invites = 150
> Spare = 4*17 = 68
TOTAL info cards to make = 270
'Ingredients' Needed:-
You will get 2 info cards per A4 sheet, therefore, you need 135 A4 sheets.
Now you have to tell me the colour of the card to use before I can calculate the costs.

Front, I would personally print "Order of the Day blah blah blah" onto some of the vellum, but instead of looping it around the card, just fold it slightly over the edges and stick down. |
Sounds fab!

I'm only doing this for the Ceremony day, so it'll be 12-13 actual OotD's.

In total you will need 'ingredients' for:-
> Day = 4*13 invites = 52
> Evening = 3*50 invites = 150
I' now confused, this equates to 63 invites in total BUT you're doing 70.... and I suggested basing it on 80 in case of errors SO... I'm going to give you figures for 80 as before.... here goes again
> Day = 4*13 invites = 52
> Evening = 3*50 invites = 150
> Spare = 4*17 = 68
TOTAL info cards to make = 270
'Ingredients' Needed:-
You will get 2 info cards per A4 sheet, therefore, you need 135 A4 sheets.
Now you have to tell me the colour of the card to use before I can calculate the costs. |
I suggested 70 invites to allow for cock ups, but 80 is good, because if we invite people that can't come then I can send out invites to further invitees.
Colour of the card for the inserts?? I liked your suggestion of natural cream, pistachio and pink. So, one pink, one green and two pinks for the day, one of each for the evening?
Getting really excited about these invites!!

Right so based on your colours for info cards:-
> Day = 13 Natural; 13 Pistachio; 26 Pink = 52
> Evening = 50 Natural; 50 Pistachio; 50 Pink = 150
> Spare = 17 Natural; 17 Pistachio; 27 Pink = 68
Thus needed:-
80 Natural (40 sheets of A4)

Hey Rach.
Here goes:-
Initial invite details:-
In my opinion, don't use Mr & Miss in the actual invite itself.... I know myself prior to getting wed, I was a "Ms" not a "Miss" but assumption would of been made that I was a Miss.
Plus, it always looks a little impersonal too.
Font:- I would suggest a different font for the detail as it doesn't quite go with your nice fancy font.
Time:- I personally wouldn't spell out the time or do it as a 24 hr clock. Do it as 2:00pm etc
RSVP:- Definately have a RSVP date.
Grammar on Dinner Reception card:- The first line should read "The menu is as follows:-" then have the menu details. Then "Please indicate, on your RSVP card, your preferences for each guest including your wine preference."
Also, the word "entertainment" on the bottom paragraph spans over 2 lines....
Midlands Evening Reception Card:- Time:- as before regarding the stating of the time.
RSVP Card:- You have 3 sides BUT you are planning on doing a postcard type which is only 2 sides and 1 has to be your address. Is the plainer one, for the Midlands evening reception? If so, might be an idea to state "blah and blah will/will not be able to accept the invitation to the Midlands Evening Celebration of the marriage of Rachel & Michael". You will also need to do a small print stating "circle/delete as appropriate" in respect to the will or will not bit.

I have to say I like the font. Not much to add to Missis except
1 - The 'evening' invites. I would personally (a) - remove the "evening" bit as you're not inviting people to the end of the day, although I get why you're saying that and (b) - your first sentence is too long - if it were me I'd try to chop it down somehow.
2 - For the people invited to both functions, don't forget an additional card to go in their invites inviting them to the "evening" do as well
